Our next North Tyneside #KidicalMass ride will take place at 2pm on Sunday 22nd September.
On this World Car Free Day, we will be joining with campaigners nationwide, both individuals and organisations, to call for safer streets for kids, coming together with a vision to minimise road danger through improved driver and vehicle regulation and people-centred design of our public spaces. For more on this campaign, see our post on Kidical Mass and #SafeStreetsNow.
For this ride, we will have two starting points, one at Marden Quarry (https://what3words.com/craft.vocab.vibes) and one in Northumberland Square, North Shields town centre (https://what3words.com/patio.rider.herb). Both rides will converge in Tynemouth village, and ride together on the new seafront cycleway to Cullercoats, as a celebration of this new route and to demonstrate just how valuable safe infrastructure is, especially for children and their families.
We’ll finish at the play park on Beverley Terrace (where previous rides have finished). Do invite your non-cycling friends and family to join us there to strengthen our call for #SafeStreetsNow.
The routes are 2-3 miles long and combine quiet roads, cycle paths, and short sections on busier roads. We will be riding at a slow pace. Qualified marshals and experienced adult riders will be helping to keep the rides safe.
If you’re looking to find safe routes to the starting points, Go Smarter’s map of North Tyneside might help you plan.
