Join us throughout the summer for a programme of free family friendly, social bike rides and repair workshop events, supported by CyclingUK’s Big Bike Revival.

Friday 28th June: Seafront Social Ride

Ride at 6:30pm from Tynemouth Priory to Whitley Bay and back on the newly completed seafront cycleway (NCN1). Drinks & chat afterwards.

Friday 5th July: Family Ride & Book Talk with author Laura Laker

Family cycle ride with journalist and author Laura Laker, leaving at 5:15pm from the bound, Park View, Whitley Bay. Riding via Whitley Bay town centre, South Parade cycleway and the seafront cycleway to Tynemouth and back.

Followed by Laura Laker in Conversation with Sally Watson at the bound, discussing Laura’s book ‘Potholes & Pavements‘.

Friday 26th July: Family Picnic & Social Ride

Family Picnic, Bike Repair Workshop & Social Bike Ride

Join us for a free bike repair workshop from 5pm on The Links in Whitley Bay, just in front of Spanish City, followed by a social bike ride on the sea front cycleway to Tynemouth and back. Bring along a picnic, plus there’ll be free ice creams for kids!

Learn about basic bike repairs such as puncture repairs, checking & tightening brakes, checking tyres and adjusting seat and handlebar positions. Perfect if you’ve not used your bike in a while and would like to get back into cycling, or if you’d like to be more confident in keeping your bike in good condition.

At 6:30pm, we’ll take a slow, social ride on the new seafront cycleway (NCN1) to Tynemouth and back to Whitley Bay for optional drinks and chat afterwards – location to be decided by popular vote on the day.This is a great way to meet like minded people, discover new cycle routes and enjoy a slow and safe ride along our gorgeous coastline.

Tickets aren’t required, and there’s no charge to join. The event is supported by CyclingUK’s Big Bike Revival and is family friendly, so feel free to bring along kids of any age. We won’t leave anyone behind, and we’ve got volunteers on hand to help out.

Friday 30th August: Fish & Chips Social Ride

Fish & Chips Social Bike Ride

Join us for a free bike ride from Tynemouth Priory to the North Shields Fish Quay (on the NCN1 traffic-free route) for Fish & Chips – with free chips for kids!

We’ll ride back to Tynemouth Priory, arriving by 6:30pm. At 6:30pm we’ll then ride on the seafront cycleway (NCN1) to Whitley Bay with optional drinks & chat afterwards – location to be decided by popular vote on the day!

You’re welcome to join us for either part of the ride – or both – the choice is yours! Both rides will be slow and social, and suitable for all ages. This is a great way to meet like minded people, discover new cycle routes and enjoy a slow and safe ride along our gorgeous coastline.

Friday 27th September: Social Ride to Blyth

Social Bike Ride to Blyth South Beach and back

Join us for a free social bike ride from Spanish City Plaza in Whitley Bay to Blyth South Beach (Mermaid car park) and back.

We’ll ride on the traffic-free NCN1 route, taking in the sights of St Mary’s Lighthouse, exploring the segregated cycle lane through Seaton Sluice, and the scenic Eve Black Way along the dunes to Blyth.

The ride is approximately 10 miles (including the return journey), and we’ll ride at a slow and social pace, so it’s perfect for most riders. Children are welcome, but please consider the length of the ride. If you’d like to join us for part of the route, you’re welcome to – please let a volunteer know at the start if you won’t be riding the full route with us.

This is a great way to meet like minded people, discover new cycle routes and enjoy a slow and safe ride along our gorgeous coastline.

Friday 25th October: Halloween Spooky Cycle Ride

Halloween Spooky Social Bike Ride

Join us for a spooky social bike ride from Tynemouth Priory, riding on the NCN1 seafront cycleway to Whitley Bay and back.

Meet from 5:30pm next to the Tynemouth Clock Tower to pimp (pumpkin?) your bikes with free lights and decorations provided. Or feel free to decorate your bike yourself, fancy dress is also encouraged!

We’ll ride at 6:30pm on the new seafront cycleway at a slow and social pace to Whitley Bay, and back. The ride is suitable for all ages, we won’t witches or wizards behind.

This is a great way to meet like minded people, discover new cycle routes and enjoy a slow and safe ride along our gorgeous coastline.
